At the planning committee meeting on Monday 1st December 2020, the council approved plans for the Gasworks Development at Lea Bridge to go ahead, more or less unchanged.
Three local residents gave passionate, heartfelt speeches that set out just some of the many reasons that the application should be rejected.
Chair of the committee, councillor Jenny Gray, dismissed these reasons as ‘anxieties’ before leading the committee to vote unanimously in favour of the scheme.
When our children are denied their right to clean air due to toxic pollution from the gasworks, we will remember the committee’s betrayal of our community.
